Empezamos esta ronda de entrevistas a personas europeas convencid@s con Jorge, como verás, ferrolano y muy europeísta!
- Cuéntanos un poco sobre ti Jorge
Nací en Ferrol, un 24 de agosto de 1987. Estudié en la Compañía de María y en el Masculino. Ferrolano y europeo convencido. Licenciado en Derecho por la UDC , y Máster en Derecho. Estudios de la UE.
Actualmente trabajo en un Despacho de Abogados, a la vez que he comenzado recientemente mi etapa de doctorando en Derecho Internacional Público
2. Como ferrolano, europeo convencido, la primera pregunta es directa: ¿Cómo ves el proyecto de integración europea desde Ferrol? ¿Cómo crees que se percibe desde ahí?
Lo veo, por mucho que se diga por ahí, fuerte y con líderes totalmente concienciados de que Europa es el futuro. Salvo los nuevos “salvavidas” que usan a la UE como la excusa perfecta para sostenerse en el poder. Los ferrolanos somos de esta esquinita de la Península Ibérica, hemos estado siempre bastante incomunicados.
Quizás veamos Europa como algo muy lejano, pero no podemos dejar de pensar y de sentirnos parte de esta unión que solo nos ha traído cosas buenas. Esto es algo que tenemos que implementar en la sociedad, hacer ver que Europa es sinónimo de bienestar, seguridad, paz, igualdad, libertad. ¿Mejorable? Claro que sí, y ese debe de ser siempre el camino. Nunca ir hacia atrás
3. Tienes una amplia experiencia en la gestión de proyectos europeos implementados en la provincia de A Coruña como son los proyectos DORNA, REDEXIANA, PARNET-TIC, y una breve estancia en el Eixo Atlántico. ¿Nos puedes explicar en qué consistían y cuáles eran sus objetivos?
Sí, tras realizar el Máster en la UDC, tuve la oportunidad de estar dos años en la Diputación de A Coruña, en el Oficina de Proyectos Europeos. Allí aprendí de la mano de un grupo de profesionales que llevan años manejando Fondos Europeos.
Los proyectos en los que tuve la suerte de participar eran de varias temáticas. Desde la recuperación de patrimonio histórico de la provincia, como DORNA, nuevas tecnologías y el rural, como PARNET-TIC en sus dos ediciones y, para mí el más especial, REDEXIANA. Este último, por su temática, es el que más me dejó huella. Y también me reafirma en mi idea de que la UE está para mejorar nuestra calidad de vida.
Era un proyecto financiado con fondos del FSE, de promoción de empleo para colectivos con dificultades, desde mayores, a gente sin estudios básicos. Sobre todo de ayuntamientos del rural de la provincia. Realizábamos cursos de formación gratuitos en diversas temáticas, con prácticas laborales en empresas de la zona. Muchos de los participantes al final se quedaban colocados en esas empresas. Y nosotros recibíamos esos resultados con una satisfacción tremenda. Eso también es UE, y muchos todavía no lo ven
4. ¿Tú crees que somos conscientes de la cantidad de dinero que viene de la Unión Europea para realizar proyectos sociales, económicos y demás en la zona?
No, no lo somos en absoluto. Me llama la atención que mucha gente, como te decía, siga diciendo que la UE es lo peor, que no trae más que problemas y que es algo totalmente ajeno a nuestro día a día.
Yo a esa gente le diría que saliese de su casa, anduviese unos metros hasta un cartel de alguna obra de mejora, renovación, construcción en su entorno, porque ahí podrá comprobar que la UE ha aportado un porcentaje para arreglar esa calle, esa plaza, instalar unas fuentes, unos bancos, construir un centro cívico para el barrio…etc. Algunos de los sinónimos de la UE para mi son los conceptos de bienestar, calidad de vida, accesibilidad, solidaridad, comunidad etc.
Es tarea de todos, pero especialmente de los políticos, hacer un poco más de pedagogía y ser más sinceros a la hora de explicar que la mayoría de los avances, mejoras y novedades en nuestros pueblos y nuestras ciudades vienen de la mano de la UE.
Sonará a tontería, pero me gustaría ver más calles, plazas, parques, con el nombre de la Unión Europa. Esto es una nimiedad, pero da mucha visibilidad a esa unión a la que, afortunadamente, pertenecemos
5. ¿Qué destacarías de los logros que ha tenido la inversión de la UE?
Como te decía, los logros han sido múltiples. Nos ha igualado, o al menos acercado, a las demás naciones europeas. Nos ha vertebrado, nos ha comunicado con el exterior (las autovías que tanto se merecía por justicia Galicia han tenido altísimos porcentajes de financiación europea)
Hemos sido afortunados con esos fondos regionales de los que fuimos beneficiaros y que tanto nos ha aportado. Instalaciones culturales, de educación, sanidad y un sinfín de necesidades que hemos podido realizar gracias a esos millones de euros.
6. Ahora estás inmerso en un proyecto online muy interesante, llamado RED CONEXION JURIDICA. Cuéntanos qué es y de qué se trata.
Sí Aroa, junto a dos de mis compañeras del Despacho estamos comenzando con esta nueva aventura. No podemos obviar que las nuevas redes sociales son un canal vertebrador y la mejor forma de llegar a la gente, por eso hemos decidido crear este canal @redconexionjuridica para, dentro de nuestro día, acercar un poco el Derecho a la gente de a pie.
Tenemos un día especial, los jueves jurídicos, donde hacemos pequeños videos con rondas de preguntas y respuestas a cuestiones legales generales que se nos dan todos los días. De igual forma, subimos de vez en cuando pequeños comentarios a noticias de actualidad jurídica. El contenido de nuestros vídeos son dudas que nos mandan nuestros seguidores.
No nos ponemos límites, pero tenemos en mente ir añadiendo contenidos nuevos, contar con gente especializada en otras ramas.
Estamos creando un canal de YOTUBE, donde queremos subir videos más profesionales.
7. Esta vez, ¿por qué votas en las Elecciones Europeas del 26 de mayo?
«Este año hay elecciones al Parlamento Europeo y ¿por qué voto? Esta vez voto por una política de cohesión mucho más potente para que no tengamos ningún tipo de diferencias vivamos donde vivamos»

We start this round of interviews with convinced European people with Jorge. As you will see, he is a guy from Ferrol and very pro-European!
- Tell us a little bit about yourself
I was born in Ferrol, on August 24, 1987. I studied at the Company of María school and at the Masculino High School. “Ferrolano” and European convinced. I hold a Law Degree and a Master’s degree in EU Law
I am currently working in a Law Firm and I have recently started my PhD in International Public Law.
2. As a Ferrolan, a convinced European, the first question is direct: How do you see the European integration project from Ferrol? How do you think it is perceived from there?
I see it, no matter how many people say it out there, strong and with leaders totally aware that Europe is the future. Except for the new «lifeguards» that use the EU as the perfect excuse to stay in power. The people from Ferrol are from this little corner of the Iberian Peninsula, we have always been quite isolated.
Maybe, we see Europe as something very far away, but we cannot stop thinking and feeling part of this Union that has only brought us good things. This is something that we have to implement in society, to show that Europe is synonymous with well-being, security, peace, equality, freedom. It can be better? Of course, and that must always be the way. Never go back.
3. You have extensive experience in the management of European projects implemented in the province of A Coruña, such as the DORNA, REDEXIANA, PARNET-TIC projects, and a brief stay at Eixo Atlántico. Can you explain us what they were and what were their objectives?
Yes, after my Master’s degree, I had the opportunity to work two years in the Office of European Projects of Diputación de A Coruña. There, I learned from an experienced group of professionals who have been working with European Funds for years.
I was lucky to taking part in projects focused on in different topics: DORNA about the recovery of the province’s historical heritage; PARNET-TIC about new technologies and the rural area; and, REDEXIANA in its last two editions and the most important project personally. Its purpose made the difference for me. And it also reaffirms me in the idea that the EU is about to improve our quality of life.
Redexiana was a project financed with ESF funds to promote the employment of groups of people with difficulties, from the elderly to people without basic studies. It was a project focused mainly on the rural areas of the province. We delivered free training in different subjects, with internships in companies in the area. Many of the participants continued to work in these companies. And we received those results with tremendous satisfaction. That is also the EU and many still do not see it.
4. Do you think we are aware of the amount of money that comes from the European Union to carry out social, economic and other projects in the area?
No, we are not at all. It strikes me that many people, as I was saying, keep saying that the EU is the worst, that it only brings problems and that it is something totally out to our day to day life.
I would tell these people to leave their house, walk a few meters to see a sign of work of improvement in the streets, renovation, construction in their environment, because there you can see that the EU has contributed a percentage to fix that street, that square, install fountains, benches, to build a civic centre for the neighbourhood … etc. Some of the synonyms of the EU for me are the concepts of well-being, quality of life, accessibility, solidarity, community, etc.
It is up to everyone, but especially politicians, to do a little more pedagogy and be more honest when explaining that most of the advances, improvements and developments in our towns and cities come from the EU.
It can sound silly, but I would like to see more streets, squares, parks, with the name of the European Union. This is a triviality, but it gives a lot of visibility of European Union work to which, fortunately, we belong.
5. What would you highlight about the achievements of the EU investment?
As I was saying, the achievements have been multiple. As Spanish, the EU has make us matched, or at least approached, the other European nations. It has vertebrate us, it has connected us with other parts of the world (the highways that Galicia deserved so much have had very high percentages of European funding)
We have been fortunate with those regional funds that we have benefited from and that have contributed so much to us. Cultural facilities, education, health and a host of needs that we have been able to make thanks to those millions of euros.
6. Now you are immersed in a very interesting online project called LEGAL CONNECTION RED. Tell us what it is and what it is about.
Yes Aroa, with two of my colleagues from the office, we are starting with this new adventure. We cannot ignore that the new social networks are a backbone and the best way to reach people, so we have decided to create this channel @redconexionjuridica to, within our day, bring the Law a little closer to ordinary people.
We have a special day, legal Thursdays, where we make small videos with rounds of questions and answers to general legal questions that are given to us every day. Similarly, from time to time we upload small comments to current legal news. The content of our videos are questions sent to us by our followers.
We do not set limits, but we have in mind to add new content, to have people specialized in other branches.
We are creating a YOTUBE channel, where we want to upload more professional videos.
7. This time, why do you vote in the upcoming European Elections (May 26)?
«This year we have elections to the European Parliament and why am I voting? This time I’m voting for a much stronger cohesion policy so that we do not have any kind of differences live where we live»
